Natural Dye Workshop ~ Bundle Dye

Join The Natural Dye Company in creating a beautiful, bundle dyed cotton bandana or silk scarf! Get your creativity flowing with NDCo. for a morning that will inspire your inner artisan and celebrate the colors of nature! Bundle dyeing is the perfect way to start your dye journey and is a simple form of eco-printing. Using an array of natural dyestuffs we will arrange and roll flowers, plants and insects (!) within an 8" x 54" silk scarf or 22" x 22" cotton bandana and then place it above hot steam. The naturally-occurring pigments within the dyestuffs will bind to the textile and create gorgeous dyes and organic patterns. It is a creative and fascinating way to appreciate the beauty, color and also the impermanence of flora and fuana. We will talk about what dyestuffs work the best, how to preserve the color as long as possible, and artistic approaches such as composition and technique.

While our scarves are steaming, there will be time for Q&A and discussion.Come with curiosity, wonder and a good attitude and get ready to learn and experience something new! If you are deciding between a silk scarf or a cotton bandana, please note the silk scarf has a sheen to it, and colors show up a little more saturated and brighter than on cotton. The cotton bandana is a matte fabric and will have slightly more muted, softer tones.

Children are welcome to register but must be accompanied by an adult. If you are accompanying a registered child and would like to make your own textile, please register yourself as well. All materials are included.REFUNDS:

This includes...1) Scour: "Scouring" is a term that refers to cleaning fibers from any barriers that may produce uneven mordanting and dyeing. NDCo. uses Orvus Paste (a pH neutral, biodegradable anionic synthetic detergentthat is made of Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Lauryl Alcohol, Sodium Sulfate, and water; it is phosphate-free) and Synthrapol (a pH neutral, concentrated surfactant made primarily of water, isophthalic acid and isopropyl alcohol).2) Mordant: Mordant is an assistant agent to help adhere the dye to the silk fibers, aiding in colorfastness and lightfastness, ensuring longer lasting colors.
